The Home Science College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Madurai had its origin as Department of Home Science in 1980 offering B.Sc Home Science degree at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai. Continuing its path of progress in tune with the latest developments and technologies, it has developed into a full fledged institute named as Home Science College and Research Institute in Madurai during 2000. This institute has emerged as a nodal centre for Education, Research and Extension in the five specialized areas namely Food Science and Nutrition, Family Resource Management, Human Development, Apparel Designing and Fashion Technology and Home Science Extension. The Home Science College and Research Institute is located in the sprawling campus of Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai Tamil Nadu,India. This campus  which is 10 km away from Madurai city on the National Highways to Chennai / Melur Road near Y. Othakadai.

The mission is to provide value based education to instill confidence, courage, independence and professional competence in the youth to meet out the opportunities and challenges in the present era of globalization.

VISION

    To provide entrepreneurial skill  and gainful employment to all graduates.
    To promote academic exchange programmes with national and international educational and research institutes.
    To provide quality education to make the students technically competent to face the challenge in the chosen field of study and in higher education at National and International level.
    To impart knowledge and skills necessary to work in research laboratories, food industries , health sectors and at the community level
    To start PG programme in all the other four disciplines of Home Science.
    To start Post Graduate Diploma courses in all five disciplines.
