GRE Test Structure GRE consists of four sections - Writing section, Quantitative section, Verbal section and Experimental section. The test duration is 4 hours. Verbal, quantitative, and experimental section consists of multiple choice questions.
Analytical Writing Assessment Analytical writing assessment consists of writing two essays, one to analyze an arguement and second to analyze an issue. 30 minutes are given to write each essay. Examiners mark each essay with grade from 0 to 6. This test is taken on computer with limited functionalities(eg. no spell checker on computer).
Duration - 1 hour.
Quantitative Section Quantitative section consists of 28 multiple questions. The typical format for this section is: 14 quantitative questions, 10 descrete quantitative questions, and 4 data interpretation questions. The grade scale for this section is 200-800.
Duration - 45 minutes.
Verbal section Verbal section consists of 30 multiple choice questions which are of 3 types: sentence analogies, completions, and reading comprehension passages. The grade scale for this section is 200-800.
Duration - 45 minutes
Experimental Section Experimental section does not add to the score of an examinee. It can be either verbal, qantitative or anaytical writitg. It is unidentified from the user. It contains new type of questions which ETS can add to GRE in future.
