Australia is opening up its doors for Indian students by providing them scholarships to study in top universities in Australia.

The University of Wollongong (UOW) in partnership with the Bradman Foundation is offering the UOW Bradman Scholarship to one undergraduate student from India each year.

“The scholarship is open to both males and females, and is granted for the duration of the scholar’s UG programme. This scholarship will open the opportunity for the selected candidate to play cricket/ regional cricket/professional cricket depending on his/her performance. This scholarship will support a student who has already got admission at the UOW,” says Paul Wellings CBE, vice-chancellor, University of Wollongong.

A new scholar will be selected in each calendar year. The scholar will receive 50% tuition fee waiver for each standard academic year. Indian students, currently residing in India, who have turned 18 years of age, prior to the commencement of the UOW course; who have completed their ICSE/CBSE with a minimum 70% average in the best four academic subjects can apply.

“We will be looking out for students who display a blend of academic, sporting, personal and social skills,” he says.

Students have to submit a letter of application, history of education and employment, certificates of academic record, etc. For details, visit uow.edu.au. The last date to apply is January 31, 2013.

Also, Macquarie University in collaboration with India@75 Foundation has launched the Macquerie India@75 scholarships, in which 55 Indian students will be able to pursue their PhD over a period of five years.

“This is a 100% scholarship and will be available to students over a period of three years. Every year, we plan to select 11 Indian students. Students who want to apply for the scholarship must have a strong academic background,” says S Bruce Dowton, vice- chancellor, Macquarie University.

The scholarship will apply to many areas identified as focus of the India@75 mission, which includes health, education, energy, transportation, sustainable development, arts, science, sports and literature.

Macquarie scholarships will be offered to graduates across all major Indian universities to undertake PhDs and engage in jointly supervised research projects, spending time at their home institution and at Macquarie. There will also be academic exchanges across India and at Macquerie.
